I've seen many homes built in my life and even made plans for them all. But I love Filipino traditional design the most because it's our identity.
And if you want to know what is Filipino traditional then the answer is houses made from local materials like bamboo, rattan, niyog, kahoy and abel fabric.
Our ancestors used to make them. Although these cost money today, in the old days, these were all available for free.
This style is a beautiful blend of colonial Spanish influence and indigenous Pilipino craftsmanship. Rattan sofa sets, capiz shell windows, handwoven bayong baskets, palayok on display, carved wooden furniture are all hallmarks of Filipino traditional style, and the best part is that the materials to build a home like this are easily available. And if you own a forest, you'll save a lot of money.
It's also budget friendly, and you can customize the design accordingly. So, let's move on to small house interior design and understand it in detail.

Total Budget ₱50,000 se ₱150,000
People set a budget before building a house. And I've paid special attention to this as well. It's important to know the total budget for the plan I'm about to share with you today.
The small house interior design I've provided can be created within three different budgets. This means I've put a lot of effort into it and created the best plan for you.
₱50,000 Basic Level:- This budget allows you to purchase essential furniture, install basic tiles, and do simple finishing. Each room will have a basic look.
Even though this will be a basic level house, it will be attractive in appearance and all the rooms as per your requirement will be available.
₱100,000 Mid Level:- In this budget you can use better quality rattan furniture, nice tiles, proper lighting fixtures, and some traditional decor pieces.
The feel of the house will be genuinely Filipino traditional and most houses are built in this budget as it is a mid range budget.
₱150,000 Complete Level:- This budget allows you to build a truly beautiful home. Carved wooden furniture, proper capiz windows, handmade accessories, and a complete traditional Filipino look can be added to every room.
Although it will cost more money, your house will be built in a beautiful and different design and you will also get more comfort in it.
Room 1 Living Room
Now that you've decided on your budget, it's time to consider interior design. I'm going to explain each room separately, the first being the living room.
This is the most used room in the house. Everyone uses it, and it's the room that determines the status of the entire house.
So I have designed the living room keeping in mind both status and budget, you will like it.
Measurements
In this small house interior design, our living room is going to be 4.0m × 4.5m i.e. 18 sq.m., which you can also call 193.75 sq.ft.
This is the size of a typical small house living room in the Philippines, which feels reasonably comfortable. However, if you have more money, you can go even larger.
Wealthy people make their living rooms as large as a hall because it's a matter of status. However, if you have a lot of money, you can also take advantage of my paid plans.
Floor Design
If we keep in mind the Filipino Traditional style, then the floor of the living room should be made of ceramic tiles.
A classic choice is 60x60cm tiles in off white or cream colors. Using them with light brown grout creates a warm, earthy look that perfectly matches traditional Filipino style.
It is not necessary that you use the same color, if you like any particular color then you can also use tiles of that color.
In terms of cost, 18 sq.m. will require approximately 50 pieces of 60x60cm tiles and the total cost will be between ₱2,500 and ₱4,500.
These tiles are available at ₱50 to ₱90 per piece. If you get them cheaper from somewhere, then definitely use them.
Another option is wood look tiles. You can also install them, but they will cost a little more. The cost will range from ₱4,500 to ₱9,000, and the labor cost to install them will also be ₱3,000 to ₱5,000.
Wall Design
Now let's come to the wall design, although nowadays people like smart home more and the wall also being simple and attractive looks premium.
That's why I recommend using cream or off white paint. This color is the base color of Filipino traditional style.
You can add bamboo strips to an accent wall or even use a sheet of woven abaca mat (banig).
It gives an authentically Filipino look that will make your home more beautiful.
Talking about the cost, making a bamboo accent wall will cost ₱1,500 to ₱3,000 and this will be possible only if you use local materials, premium materials will cost more.
Paint is going to be a little less expensive and we'll be using Boysen Permacoat white paint, which costs ₱550 a gallon and covers roughly 40 sq.m. So, one gallon is enough for an 18 sq.m living room, that too with 2 coats.
Furniture
Now let's move on to the most important element, without which the living room feels incomplete. In this small house interior plan, I've placed a traditional rattan sofa set in the center of the living room.
And you will get good deals on this sofa set in local carpentry shops or furniture markets like Divisoria Manila, Carbon Market Cebu, or local ukay ukay furniture shops.
A complete rattan sofa set consisting of 1 3 seater sofa, 2 armchairs and a center table, locally made, can be bought for ₱8,000 to ₱18,000.
To cover the sofa, you can use traditional abel fabric or bayong inspired patterns which can be priced between ₱150 and ₱300.
And if you want to keep your budget within ₱50,000, then you can also buy second hand rattan sets from ukay ukay furniture shops, which cost between ₱3,000 to ₱6,000.
It will be second hand but after some repair and painting it will look brand new and this will save your money.
An icon of Filipino traditional style is the capiz shell window or capiz lamp shade. A medium capiz shell window panel measuring 60x90cm will cost you around ₱1,800 to ₱4,000.
And if replacing the window is not possible, you can install a capiz lamp shade which will cost between ₱800 to ₱2,500.
Well, nowadays there are many types of windows available and many designs are also available, you can buy it as per your budget.
Lighting
In the Philippines, soft, warm lighting is used in the living room of almost every home. This gives the home a premium look.
If you're short on money, you can consider a hanging bamboo pendant lamp, which costs between ₱600 and ₱1,500, and a 9 watt warm LED bulb, which costs ₱120 to ₱180.

Room 2: Bedroom
This is an important room of the house and in our budget small house interior design, I have kept it as a bedroom.
Although, if you have the money, you can build another one. If you already have a one bedroom house, you can talk to me. You might need my services for this, but that's not necessary right now.
Measurements
The bedroom size is 4.0m × 4.5m, or 18 sq.m., which can also be translated as 193.75 sq.ft. I've made it the same size as the living room, and this size is considered standard.
Some people make a bedroom even smaller than this but then they will have to face many problems.
Floor Design
The best option for bedrooms is ceramic tiles or vinyl flooring, depending on your preference.
Vinyl flooring offers a warmer feel, keeps your feet cool, and is ideal for bedrooms. You can choose wood look vinyl tiles.
As for the price, you can get it for ₱90 to ₱150 per sq.ft., and if we talk about the entire room, it is 18 sq.m. = 193 sq.ft.
This will cost between ₱17,000 and ₱29,000. An alternative is basic ceramic tiles, which will cost between ₱5,500 and ₱8,000. You can choose whichever option is most affordable for you.
Wooden Bed Frame
The focal point of a Filipino traditional bedroom is a solid wooden bed frame, and these are available at various prices in the local market.
The cost depends on the quality of the bed. A queen size bed made from locally made narra, mahogany, or engineered wood can be found for ₱8,000 to ₱18,000.
Mattress will have to be purchased separately and a good foam mattress is available for ₱3,500 to ₱8,000. You can also buy premium quality by paying more money.
Wardrobe
Now it's time for the wardrobe, without which the bedroom is incomplete. We keep all our essentials, including money and jewelry, in the wardrobe.
Locally made 2 door wardrobe can be bought for ₱6,000 to ₱12,000. If you want to get it made by a carpenter, you can get it made for less money.
Well, I have made my wardrobe from my old bed and old wood from my store, and this has saved me a lot of money.
You can also get a bedsheet for ₱1,200 or less. Sometimes, the price of a bedsheet is very low. While this isn't a necessary expense, it's included in the baggage plan.

Room 3 Kitchen
The kitchen is also an important part of the home, so it should be clean and proper. However, this is decided at the time of building the house.
But I have seen that even after having enough space in the house, people make their kitchen in the wrong way and this reduces the kitchen space.
That's why I have taken special care of room space in this small house interior design.
Measurements
The total measurement of the kitchen is going to be 3.0m × 4.75m = 14.25 sq.m. i.e. 153.38 sq.ft.
This much space is sufficient for a small kitchen. I've kept it a little larger and simpler so that essential items can be easily stored.
Blue and White Tile
The most iconic feature of a Filipino traditional kitchen is the blue and white tile backsplash. This pattern came from Spanish colonial architecture and is still seen in many Filipino traditional homes today.
I have used 20×30cm ceramic tiles with a blue and white alternating pattern.
The price per piece is ₱18 to ₱35, and this varies depending on the space. A standard backsplash area measuring 3.0m wide and 0.6m tall requires roughly 45 pieces.

Kitchen Cabinet Design
It is impossible that there are no cabinets in the kitchen, although they cost a lot of money but they are also an essential thing.
Therefore, if you want to save money, you will have to use thin plywood or locally made plywood cabinets.
L shaped counter configuration is best in 3m stretch, making upper cabinets and lower base cabinets will cost you around ₱18,000 to ₱35,000.
This will depend on the size and finish, as many advanced technologies are currently available in the market, which are very expensive.

Room 4 Comfort Room
This room is very common in the Philippines and should be in every home. It's also useful for receiving guests.
Although I have seen this room built separately in many houses, but in most of the houses it remains inside the house.
Measurements
The total area of this room is 3.0m × 3.25m = 9.75 sq.m., or 104.95 sq.ft. You can also design this room differently.
But if you want to work within your budget, then you will have to read the details given below.
Wall Tiles
Blue and white tiles are a classic choice for a room like this. Covering an entire wall with tiles creates a unique look.
For this you have to use 20×25cm subway tiles which cost ₱35 to ₱80 per piece.
This room has a wall size of approximately 27 sq.m. and will require approximately 540 pieces of tile. Consequently, the total cost will range from ₱18,900 to ₱43,200.
If you're looking for a budget friendly option, you can try one thing: install tiles on only half the wall and paint the rest. This will cut your costs in half.
Apart from this, it is very important to use anti slip tiles in the floor because safety is also important.
It will not cost much, a 30×30cm anti slip tile can be easily found in the market for ₱50 to ₱120.
So, if we talk about the flooring of the entire room, then it is a total area of 9.75 sq.m., which will require approximately 108 pieces of tiles, the total cost of which will be between ₱5,400 to ₱12,960.
Fixtures

Toilets from local brands like American Standard Philippines or TOTO can be purchased for ₱3,500 to ₱8,000.
If your budget is even lower, then local brands like Sanitaire, Meiito will also cost you between ₱1,800 to ₱3,500.
A sink is also essential, as you still need to wash your hands. Pedestal sinks can be found for around ₱2,500 to ₱6,000.
If your budget is a little higher, you can also consider a wall hung type. These can be found for around ₱3,500 to ₱8,000.
Budget tip: Rustan's or AllHome brands offer affordable options at local hardware stores, so give them a try.
Next comes a shower set, with a basic shower head and arm costing between ₱800 and ₱2,500. A proper rainfall shower set costs between ₱2,500 and ₱5,000.
This price is based on the local market in the Philippines. The price of such items changes from time to time, so be sure to check with the store.
After this, there is a need for a mirror and in this small house interior design plan, we have kept in mind the traditional look of Philippines.
Therefore, a Wooden framed mirror will look stunning in a comfortable room. A 60x80cm wooden framed mirror can easily be found for around ₱1,200 to ₱3,500.
Now the only thing left is the exhaust fan which is not particularly needed but we are building a house which may be small but is premium.
Therefore, exhaust fan is also an important thing and anyway, in Philippines, exhaust fan is required for ventilation in such a room.
And you will get this small thing for ₱500 to ₱1,500. Do not be stingy with good quality because it is an electrical item.
